Cayden Taipalus was standing in line waiting to get his lunch when he noticed that the classmate in front of him was denied a hot meal because of insufficient funds in his account. The moment stuck with Cayden, and when he got home he asked his mom what he could do to help.

The 8-year-old student from Howell, Michigan believes everyone should have a nutritious and warm meal, so he decided he would find a way to pay for it himself. He started recycling to raise money for the lunches, and his friends and family soon pitched in money for the cause. Then, Cayden’s mom had the idea to set up a crowdfunding on Fundrazr.com, which has raised over $40,000 to date.

Cayden used the donations not only to pay for the lunches of his classmates, but also to pay for the lunches of every kid who needs one in Heartland County. Today, that total of lunches that the donations have paid for amounts to over 9,200.
