The latter arguably being the worst. Losing a child is the most painful thing a person can experience, but losing them and not knowing what happened to them can be heartbreaking.

Determined as one of the biggest unresolved mysteries to date, one family has officially received closure 15 years after their 9-year-old daughter went missing in 2001. On May 7, 2001, Peggy Knobloch lived in Bavaria, Southern Germany, when she never made it home from school.

At the time when police were investigating, up to 50 witnesses reported seeing Peggy 50 yards from her home the day she went missing. Soldiers and volunteers joined police in an extensive search for the little girl that lasted for weeks.

The search for Peggy reached outside of Germany's borders and extended as far as Turkey and the Czech Republic. The police received over 5000 tips about Peggy and her kidnapping. A recent discovery by a mushroom-picker seems to be the answer to ‘what happened to Peggy Knobloch?’
