As the end of 2016 draws near, people start to rank all the big events of the year. In this case, we are going to take a look at the best matches the WWE put on this year. Matches that didn’t make the list, but do get honorable mentions are:

  • The Miz vs Dolph Ziggler at No Mercy.
  • Almost all of AJ Styles’ Main Events.
  • The Revival vs Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa at NXT Takeover.

A lot happened in the WWE this year, especially in their women’s division. Female wrestlers are being seen more as the WWE Superstars they are, rather than WWE Divas.

It was a great year for wrestling fans, and it was difficult to choose the best matches because ultimately it's more subjective than objective. Read ahead and tell us if you agree in the comments!

1/ Sasha Banks vs Charlotte vs Becky Lynch at 'WrestleMania 32'. The four Horsewomen killed it this year. They have elevated the standard for female wrestlers in a great way. The feud between Banks and Charlotte alone was one of the best. The reason we chose this match though was because they finally got rid of that glittery, condescending, Lisa Frank looking Divas Belt.

2/ AJ Styles has been one of the most dominant forces in the WWE this year. What can we say, the man knows how to wrestle and put on a good show. Any number of his matches could have made this list, but we would like to put forward his match with John Cena at 'SummerSlam'. Two of the best performers that company has ever had on one of the biggest nights for the company.

3/ As we mentioned, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair had one of the best, if not the best feud of the year. One of their most epic matches was at Falls Count Anywhere, on RAW. Sasha won, as seems to be the par for the course for these two. Sasha wins on RAW and Charlotte wins on PPV. The ladies have crazy chemistry though and always kill it in the ring. The ending of this match was particularily spectacular when Sasha dedicated the match to Charlotte’s father, Ric Flair who came out and held her hand up in victory.

4/ The fatal 4-way Intercontinental Championship Match at Extreme Rules. Listen, anytime you up the numbers of wrestlers in the ring - in particular good wrestlers - the excitement goes up. This match had Cesaro vs The Miz vs Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn. The four of them put a great match on and it could have been anyone’s game, but The Miz got the win.
