Such was the case for one family in Atlanta, GA who found an abandoned Golden Retriever after an awful flood.

‘He was just sitting by a mailbox in the rain, looking pathetic,’ wrote the man who found him. ‘I pulled over and called him to me, and he immediately came, wagging his tail.’

The dog was very friendly and kind, but in need of a lot of care. His physical state was less than kind. He was dirty, riddled with bugs, and skinny.

A vet determined that the pup had been living in the woods fending for himself, and they suspected he may have run away from an animal hoarding situation.

After a few days, they removed over 200 fleas from the poor dogs body.

He also had hookworm, ringworm, and heartworm and was 25 pounds underweight. With hair so matted that a brush couldn’t pass through it, it all had to be cut so they could give him a proper cleaning.
