Whenever America is about to make the transition from one president to another, especially one that is from the opposite party, there are tensions. Donald Trump is the President-elect and to say he is different from Obama is an understatement. Trump maybe reassuring on some issues, but he has dropped the ball on a big one.

The big issue being, how the President-elect will handle climate change. Under the Obama administration, climate change was seen as a real threat that needed to be mitigated and it was dealt with as such. Obama was instrumental in the Paris Agreement. Now, the President-elect has tweeted he believes climate change was invented by the Chinese.

This kind of rhetoric is dangerous, and people are worried. He has also threatened to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement. All of this is very troubling, you have to consider that the last 5 years have been the hottest ever recorded. Climate change deniers can plug their ears and ignore but there is no ignoring the empirical evidence that the temperature of our earth is rising.

The Great Barrier Reef at 25 million years old has been declared dead this year, amid rising temperatures and the acidification of our oceans. Arctic sea ice is melting at a very high rate, making sea levels rise. All of these are facts, not beliefs. Understandably, people are worried Trump will reverse any progress that was made under Obama and not only that, but greatly exaggerate the problem with some of his policies.
