Conchata Ferrell was born in Charleston, West Virginia. She went to West Virginia University where she received a degree in social studies in education.

She got her start in acting with the Circle Repertory Company appearing in the original Broadway cast of Lanford Wilson’s ‘The Hot L Baltimore.’
