The Way This Mom Braids Her Daughter's Hair For School Every Day Has People Freaking Out
Written by Vanessa Hojda
If you’re a parent, then you know how hard it can be to style the long and soft hair of a child. Most parents get up in the morning on a school day, have a coffee, and get ready to sleepily put their daughter’s hair into one of three hairstyles:
- One single braid
But a mother from Australia took it to the next level when she turned braiding into an art. Shelley Gilford took up braiding, using her daughter Grace’s long hair, in 2014, when she was exposed to all the available resources online for learning how to braid in more than two styles.
If you want to be reminded that your hair grooming skills are pitiful, or you if you’re not a parent and you genuinely want to see hair art, then stick around for a gallery of some of the most beautiful braiding we’ve ever seen!
Shelley always loved braiding, starting from a young age. Before she taught herself how to braid, she only knew how to do a Dutch and a French braid. She decided to go on social media, where she discovered the many communities built around improving and sharing the work of braiding.
Today, her instagram account has over 100,000 followers. She regularly shares intricate and unique styles of braiding, always surprising and delighting her audience. ‘I just love learning new styles and advancing my skills.’ she said in an interview ‘I’m hair obsessed. I’m always challenging myself to create something new and unique.’
One of the most frequent questions she gets is how long it takes to do each braid. Shelley says that it usually takes about 15-20 minutes, which is when Grace gets a chance to watch television before going to school. The fact that each hairdo doesn’t take hours is incredible!
She says that most of the time, the pictures on her instagram account are taken every morning right before Grace goes to school.
