Peterson and his team took medical precautions before his bite, like having an EP pen near by in case he went into anaphylactic shock. While bullet ants do have the most painful bite of the insect kingdom, there have been no reported cases of anyone dying.

First, Peterson tried to just put the ant on his arm in hopes that it would sting him. But, when that didn't work, he planned on using tweezers to irritate the ant to encourage a reaction. This was a very polite bullet ant considering that the ant did not bite him right away.
