Ex-Gang Members React To Seeing Themselves Without Tattoos

Tattoos can be an expression of who we are or what we believe in, and can also signify important parts of our lives. Sometimes though, people get tattoos that they regret and have to live with for the rest of their lives. Do you have any tattoos that you regret? Photographer Steve Burton is working on his latest project which gives ex-gang members the opportunity to see how they would look if they had all their tattoos removed. The results are astonishing.

‘I look younger. I look crazy,’ one of the ex-gang members said when presented with the photoshopped photos. ‘I want to show these pictures to my mom because she hates my tattoos. She can hardly look at me’. Many of the ex-gang members were shocked and did not know what to say.

Others were left speechless. The photoshopped pictures reveal younger looking, innocent people. ‘I look like my son,’ one man explains after getting the chance to look at his own photoshopped picture. The faces with digitally removed tattoos were shocking to look at, and have had a huge impact on the people involved in the project.
