Restaurant Installs Fridge Outside So That People In Need Can Take Leftovers

While restaurants are a great way to indulge

While restaurants are a great way to indulge in a prepared meal, they end up wasting a lot of food. A lot of companies are trying to change their policies to avoid wasting leftovers, yet still a lot of nourishing food that could feed others ends up in the trash.

With so many people in dire situations, who can’t afford a meal, it hardly seems fair that places are throwing away food. However, one restaurant owner in Kochi, India, decided to change this after seeing a homeless woman eating from a trashcan.

Minu Pauline, owner of the restaurant Pappadavada, came to the realization that her establishment had a lot of leftovers. This sparked an innovative idea and Pauline decided to open a fridge outside of her restaurant so people in need could help themselves to food they would have thrown out.

The fridge outside of Pappadavada is open 24/7 and free to use for anybody, it’s a great idea that puts an end to wasting food and provides for the community.

The fridge has been incredibly successful, not only receiving leftovers from Pappadavada, but with other people and restaurants donating as well.

‘Money is yours,’ Minu Pauline told The Huffington Post. ‘But resources belong to society. That’s the message I want to send out. If you’re wasting your money … you’re wasting society’s resources.’

Pauline herself adds around 75 to 80 portions of food from her restaurant a day, stating, ‘There’s days when I put 100 in there, there are no limits.’

What do you think about this idea?
