According to Coalition for the Homeless, an advocacy group based in New York, there are over 61,000 homeless people using the municipal shelter system. Needless to say, it’s not easy for low-income Americans to afford a life in the Big Apple.

A fascinating video making the rounds online shows just how creative New York City’s homeless people can be when it comes to finding shelter. In the clip, a man named Carlos welcomes a camera crew into his surprisingly equipped apartment located under an undisclosed set of train tracks.

The video shows a tour of the place, located in the gap under a manhole. Surprisingly, Carlos’ apartment is equipped with a heater, a fridge full of food, a bed and two cans of water which he uses for washing up.
