However, whiter teeth isn’t the only benefit of using baking soda to brush your pearly whites. The household substance is helpful at preventing bad breath by balancing the acid levels in your mouth, overpowering residual acids left by food. The practice can also prevent gum disease, also known as gingivitis. Gum disease is typically categorized by a swelling, bleeding and general soreness in the gums that is typically caused by plaque buildup. However, using baking soda to brush your teeth removes the bulk of the buildup.
Baking soda is also effective at soothing mouth ulcers or sores which can take long to heal as our constant eatings and drinking only serve to further irritate it. Not only does baking soda soothe any discomfort, it’s also been proven to speed up the healing process.
If you want to make sure that you have your pearly whites around for a long time then maybe you should try this tartar removing trick. You will need baking soda, salt, hydrogen peroxide, water, a cup, a dental pick, a toothpick, and antiseptic mouth wash. To create your ‘toothpaste’ mix one tablespoon of baking soda with a half teaspoon of salt. Wet your brush and dip it into the mixture. Brush your teeth for five minutes before spitting it out and into the sink. Now mix a cup of hydrogen peroxide with a half cup of water. Gargle the mixture for about a minute. After the minute you can rinse again with just plain water or your mouth wash. After you have finished rinsing it’s time to go in and actually get rid of the plaque. Use the dental pick to scrape off the yellow tartar off of your teeth. Just be careful not to poke your gums. You could easily damage them and cause them to bleed. And remember, don’t eat too much sugar, brush and floss everyday!
