Have you ever looked at a picture of someone and wondered why their face looked so weird with their choice of makeup? Chances are, they made a simple mistake that could have been avoided by reading about it beforehand. Some mistakes are only noticeable to you, like a slightly crooked cat-eye, but some can make you look worse than if you never wore any makeup. Examples of common makeup mistakes are:
The more obvious mistakes are easy to fix just before you leave the house, but some are only noticeable to other people. It’s the worst feeling when someone points out that your eyeliner melted down your face, or that your lipgloss went on your chin.
If you want to make sure your makeup game is strong, take a look at this list of common makeup mistakes and make sure you’re not making them:
Using shiny metallic colors on a wrinkled lid. Glittery shades can bring attention to the deep wrinkles that form after a certain age, which can make the eye look droopy instead of magnifying its size. But don’t worry! You can avoid this mistake and still use vibrant, shiny colors as long as you stick to a matte finish rather than a glossy one.
Heavy eyeliner on the bottom lid. If you want to highlight your brown eyes using sleek black shades, you can do this without putting heavy eyeliner on the bottom lash. This only drags your eyes down and makes them look smaller. Instead, use dark brown eyeshadow and lots of mascara on your bottom lash. The result will still be dramatic, but not too stark.
Over-plucking your eyebrows. Your eyebrows can completely change your facial expressions if you don’t do them right. The best way to keep them shapely and symmetrical is by using a flat angled brush and short strokes when you apply your powder, gel or pencil. Always go for a ‘polished’ look rather than a super thin-lined brow that’s more difficult to work with.
Crooked eyelashes. Eyelashes are just like the hair on top of your head: they need a lot of care so they don’t dry out of break easily. So treat them accordingly and don’t leave your mascara on for days on end thinking no one can see the piled-up effect. Also, be careful with waterproof mascara, there are some formulas that can do more damage than good. If you have thin eyelashes, look into a brand of mascara that doesn’t use harsh chemicals but still makes your lashes look big and full.
