1) Avoiding a basecoat. Some people think that a basecoat is unnecessary. However, wearing a basecoat actually extends your manicure’s life by a few days.
2) Cutting your cuticles. ‘It's a health risk because you're basically giving yourself open cuts on your fingers, which have a huge potential for getting infected,’ says nail artist Simcha Whitehill.
3) Using the jet chairs. When you’re getting a pedicure, you might want to avoid the jets. Although they’re a lot more relaxing, they’re not as sanitary as a traditional pedicure bowl. ‘You can't clean the jets properly, so bacteria can collect in there very easily,’ says Whitehill.
4) Not washing your equipment. You should always be washing your tools with soap and water to avoid contamination.
