Rescuer Reveals Colombian Crash Survivor's Devastating First Words

A horrific airline catastrophe that killed 71 of 77 people on board, including most of the Brazilian soccer team ‘Chapecoense’ who were flying to Medellin, Colombia, has occured. It is Colombia’s worst air crash in two decades. The Brazilian president declared three days of national mourning following the tragedy.

The reason for the crash was initially thought to be due to either an electrical failure or lack of fuel, and it has now been discovered that the plane may have run out of fuel, reports CNN. Around 10pm local time on November 28th, the pilot declared an emergency and asked to be cleared for immediate landing.

The Colombian airport gave them clearance to land, but the ground controllers lost contact with the plane after the emergency declaration. It ended up crashing in very stormy weather in the mountain region of Colombia, Cerro Gordo. In a very touching gesture, the opposing soccer team they were flying to have a match, Atléticao Nacional has given the championship title to the Chapecoense team.

Only three of the players on board survived the crash. Alan Ruschel who is a defender on the team is in the hospital with very serious injuries. Helio Zampier is in ICU recieving treatment and Jakson Follmann is being treated by trauma team specialists, reports ABC.
