Although most of us struggle with painting our own nails and shrug when we manage to place most of the polish on our cuticles rather than on top of our nails, there is a simple and easy trick that when used during your next self manicure, will work wonders to avoid all the nail polish mess.

Apply a thin layer of vaseline along your fingers, cuticles, and anywhere else where you’d mistakenly apply your polish is an effective way to avoid an imperfect manicure. Simply dip a baby Q-tip into a Vaseline jar and apply it around your nails. If you happen to slip while painting your nails, the polish won’t stick the parts of your skin that are covered with Vaseline.

To ensure that the Vaseline doesn’t mix in with your polish or, make sure to wipe your nail with a clean Q-tip before applying your polish to make sure that you're starting with a clean and untouched base.

Then, apply your color of choice to your nails like you normally would. This time, there’s no need to stress about the excess polish that runs off your nails because the Vaseline will take care of it.
