Crazy Avril Lavigne Conspiracy Theory Has Twitter User Thinking She Was Replaced In The 2000s

There have been several hoaxes that have fluttered around the internet over the past few decades. People just love to create rumors to stir up the masses. For some reason, death hoaxes seem to be a pretty popular subject.

One theory that suggests that Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne actually passed away in 2003 and was then replaced by an actress to keep her career moving forward.

The conspiracy has been around for a while but it has recently resurfaced thanks to twitter user @givenchyass. A rant of tweets, as well as questionable evidence, point towards this being a possibility.

With blogs and twitter accounts dedicated to the confirmation of Avril Lavigne’s death, it’s easy to see how people would be quick to believe this information. But is it true? I’ve done some digging and I’ve gathered everything you need to know about this alleged Avril Lavigne Death Hoax.

Fans have been coming up with multiple suggestions and theories pointing towards the possibility that the real Avril might have died and was then replaced by an actress named Melissa Vandella.

The theories are so carefully thought out, that although this is definitely a hoax, some people were beginning to believe it.

It does kind of make sense that fans might consider a switch up. If you compare her earlier music from her first album Let it Go, to some of her recent singles there are a ton of differences.

Not only does her style and genre change drastically, but @givenchyass mentions that ‘it’s a completely different style and use of vocals.’

The theory suggests that after Avril’s album blew up, the singer was having a difficult time adjusting in the spotlight and dealing with paparazzi.

This is when her management team supposedly hired an actress called Melissa Vandella to appear in public in Avril’s place. This is the image on her Facebook page.

Apparently, Avril and ‘Melissa’ became friends. After the death of Avril’s grandfather in 2003, she supposedly took her own life and this is when Melissa took over. This image is taken from the Melissa Vandella fan page, and though her hand says ‘Melissa’ in marker, she has the same star tattoo as Avril.

At the time, her second album had already been recorded, so Melissa didn’t have to do any singing yet. As far-fetched as all of this sounds, if you look into some of the lyrics of Avril’s earlier works it does seem to point in the direction of depression

The Facebook page for Melissa Vandella appears to be in a relationship with McLovin from Superbad, or Christopher Mintz-Plasse. But considering the Facebook name for him is Christopher Murdock, it kind of proves this is all a big hoax.

This isn’t even the first time that Avril has had a death hoax involving her. In 2012, a gossip site spread that she had died in a snowboarding accident. According to Snopes, the snowboarding accident has appeared before and has ‘claimed the lives’ of other celebs including Russel Brand, George Clooney and more.

There are a few other silly justifications that Melissa exists including one user saying that they have different birthmarks and tattoos, but they weren’t able to provide any evidence.

According to iheart, a source close to Avril has confirmed that she is in fact alive and well and is ‘mildly amused’ by the conspiracy theories. She also doesn’t understand why they keep resurfacing.

So, from the looks of it, this is a death theory that has just been debunked. Although it’s an interesting concept, celebrities having doubles to step in when they’re tired seems unlikely. Other celebs have been subjects of the clone theory such as Beyonce and Eminem.

For some reason, theorists can’t seem to leave the possibility that there’s a secret organization that specializes in celebrity cloning and replacements.

However, the official Avril is Dead website also has a disclaimer stating that the blog was setup to show how real conspiracy theories can look. Other twitter users have pointed out that she has the same nose and mouth despite the other changes that came from growing up.

Avril is definitely alive as well and the only threat to her health was a lyme disease scare that had her bedridden for five months. She was also going through a divorce at the time. ‘I had no idea a bug bite could do this,’ she said on the matter.
