One of the most watched television shows of the 90s, Baywatch, has been given the film reboot treatment and is set to splash into theaters this May. Star of the film, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, shared the first teaser in all of it’s slow motion swimsuit glory.
The iconic sun-drenched series starring Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff solidified its place in the pop culture zeitgeist of the 90s. Now, the film adaptation is looking to introduce the buff-bodied lifeguard team to a whole new generation.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron as two clashing lifeguards that team up to stop an oil tycoon from destroying their beach. The first teaser promises all of the explosive action, one-liners and, of course, slow motion jogging that one would expect from a Baywatch movie.
While paying homage to what made the original series so successful, the new film ups the comedy and embraces some R-rated fun a la the recent 21 Jump Street reboot.
Dwayne Johnson first shared the exclusive teaser to his 10 million Twitter followers, writing, “We’re the avengers of the beach but super dysfunctional.”
Johnson has been continually updating his fans on the progress of this highly anticipated remake, sharing on set pictures and teasing cameos from the original cast.
Baywatch will be making its way to theaters just before Memorial Day weekend on May 19, 2017.
