With the summer months looming just around the corner, you probably already started making plans. If you’re thinking of going to the beach, or going to more than a few pool parties, your top priority is to look your best in that swimming suit. One unexpected problem that might pop up is skin discoloration around the bikini area.
But you don’t have to resign yourself to wearing shorts and keeping your armpits down the whole time. Luckily for those prone to darker bikini areas, there are tons of home remedies to try for this problem. Most of these are made with ingredients that you already have at home!
The skin around our bikini area is naturally darker for a good reason. Increased pigmentation in that area is natural and necessary for protecting it from the sun’s rays. But it can darken more due to several factors.
First, we’ll start by listing what might be causing your hyper-pigmentation, then we’ll give you some great home remedies that you can try without breaking the bank.
Dehydration. Skin dehydration can lead to an excessive amount of dead skin cells accumulated in the area. So start drinking more water!
Excessive sweating. If you sweat a lot during the day and wear tight clothes or clothes made out of synthetic materials, this can lead to your skin darkening.
On to the remedies! The most popular is Aloe Vera. Apply it to the darkened area for 20 minutes, then wash it off. Apply it daily for better results.
Baking soda. Blend three parts baking soda and water until a thick paste is formed. Leave for no more than 5 minutes. Wash it off with cold water. Do this only twice a week for better results.
Lemon juice. There are so many variations to what you can do with lemon juice to lighten your skin. The most popular is mixing 2 tbsp of cucumber juice with ½ tbsp of lemon and turmeric (each). Apply it to the area and leave for 10 minutes, then wash with cold water.
Lemon and yogurt. Mix some lemon juice with ½ tbsp natural yogurt. Apply it generously to the dark area and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water. When it comes to lemon remedies, apply them twice a week.
Lemon, honey and oil. Mix ½ tbsp of lemon, 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tbsp of olive oil. Apply it to the area and leave it for 20 minutes. Not only are you lightening the skin, you’re also exfoliating and moisturizing it.
Lemon and coconut oil. Mix the lemon juice with 3 tbsp of coconut oil. Apply it to the darkened area and leave it on for 20 minutes. Remove it with a cloth soaked in cold water, then rinse the leftover excess.
