Robert Zemeckis’ adaptation of Winston Groom’s novel ‘Forrest Gump’ has become an absolute staple in cinematic history. The film won over audiences and critics alike, taking home numerous Academy Awards, including:
- Best Picture
- Best Director for Robert Zemeckis
- Best Actor for Tom Hanks
- Best Adapted Screenplay for Eric Roth
The epic romantic comedy drama following the title character of Forrest Gump had many iconic scenes that are still referenced today in pop culture.
Actors Tom Hanks and Robin Wright brought the characters of Forrest Gump and Jenny Curran to life. However, two child actors had the responsibility of setting up this couple’s story.
‘Forrest Gump’ marked the first time either of these child actors had been in film. The two were both under 10 years old during the production of the film.
Michael Conner Humphreys portrayed young Forrest Gump in the film, a role that ended up inspiring his future endeavors.
Hanna Hall played young Jenny Curran and delivered one of the most famous lines in film, ‘Run, Forrest! Run!’
While making your debut in such a culturally and historically significant film is certainly hard to top, these two child actors went on to find success in different ways.
Young Forrest Gump, Michael Conner Humphreys, grew up and turned into a real hero. Stating that film inspired him to do something that matters, Humphreys served four years in the U.S. Army infantry, which included an 18 month tour of duty in Iraq.
Humphreys only went on to act in one other movie, ‘Pathfinders: In The Company of Strangers’ in 2011. Right now, Humphreys is solely focused on school and hopes to use his international relations degree to sell planes for Airbus or Boeing overseas.
Young Jenny Curran, Hanna Hall, continued to act after ‘Forrest Gump.’ Hall went on to play the role of Cecilia in Sofia Coppola’s debut film ‘The Virgin Suicides’ in 1999 and Judith Myers in Rob Zombie’s ‘Halloween’ remake.
Hanna took some time off to attend the Vancouver Film School and has recently been focusing on working as a theater director in Venice, California. Hall continues to make appearances in hit television shows like ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Masters of Sex.’
