What a woman chooses to do with her body is her own business. This shouldn’t be a controversial statement and yet, it is. Especially in regards to pregnant women.
The fact is, some women have trouble conceiving naturally and need the help of medical professionals to start their family. This shouldn’t be a big deal and yet to Chrissy Teigen’s followers on Twitter, it is.
Two years ago, Chrissy Teigen announced she was pregnant with her first child, baby girl Luna (born in April 2016.) Teigen and her husband, John Legend, have been candid about the hardships they’ve faced to conceive.
In 2015, Chrissy made it abundantly clear how hurtful it was to have people ask her when she planned on having children. “It’s kind of crazy because I can’t imagine being that nosy to be like, ‘So, when are kids coming?’” Teigen noted that while those questions seem harmless, they could be poised to the wrong person one day.
Teigen has always been open about her use of IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) to help her conceive.
When announcing her pregnancy on Instagram she wrote, “As many of your know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family.”
Teigen even made jokes as people found the entire process of ‘choosing your embryo’ weird and criticized her for picking the sex of her baby.
Using IVF to have a much-wanted child is an odd thing to criticize someone for if you ask us, especially when it helped a couple grow their family.
Unfortunately, even after the birth of adorable baby Luna via IVF, people on Twitter are still trying to come for Teigen’s life. It all started with this tweet from the model talking about her second embryo that’s still in the freezer.
Some people came at her again, asking “why” she would do that when she could just have kids the “natural way” in a now deleted tweet. Teigen responded with her usual sardonic wit.
And then, of course, there were people who were just genuinely confused by the entire thing. Some believed that this was an announcement for her second pregnancy, so Teigen had to set ‘em straight.
All in all, the lesson to be learned from Chrissy Teigen’s pregnancy story is that it’s none of our business. It’s time we stop policing women on what they can and cannot do with their bodies, don’t you think? Now, enjoy this image of the adorable baby Luna who wouldn’t be here without IVF anyway.
