Courteney Cox became a household name after playing Monica on what would become one of the most popular television shows of all time. However, with the sudden fame, Cox has revealed that she felt certain pressures being a woman in Hollywood, which prompted choices she has come to regret.
The Friends star joined Bear Grylls on his show Running Wild, where celebrities rough it and join the wilderness survival expert on an expedition. During their Irish adventure, Grylls asked Cox about her experience with fame and the actress opened up about the struggles that can plague being a middle-aged woman in a very youth-centric industry.
“People can be pretty mean now that there’s all this social media,” Cox told Grylls on a mountainside. “I think there’s a pressure to maintain that [a certain look] and not just because of fame, but just being a woman in this business. Getting older is not the easiest thing, but I have learned lessons.”
The actress went on to discuss plastic surgery procedures she underwent in order to keep up with the pressures of the industry and how she has come to regret them. The incredibly candid moment shows Courteney Cox discuss issues that many celebrities hide from the public.
“I was trying to keep up with getting older and trying to chase that. It’s something you can’t keep up with,” Cox confesses to Bear Grylls. “Sometimes you find yourself trying and then you look at a picture of yourself and go ‘oh god, I look horrible’.’’
While the actress states she regrets some of her decisions, she remains optimistic. “I have done things I regret and luckily there are things that dissolve and go away,” Cox stated.
However, Cox was adamant on saying that she feels incredibly lucky for the fame she’s achieved and not burdened by it. “Now I have a new motto,” Cox said. “Let it be.”
