Zimbabwe is currently suffering from a major drought which lake levels are dropping at an alarming rate. Animals that live in these wet areas are now looking for other pools of water in order to survive in this drought. In this shocking video, CCTV footage captures the moment when a crocodile sneaks up into a private home and jumps into a couple’s backyard pool.
In the video, we see a couple enjoying a nice time hanging out in the pool. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen we see a crocodile sneakily crawl up the couple that is situated on the edge of the pool. The large aquatic reptile jumps in and the two immediately freak out! A reasonable reaction considering their situation.
The guy in the footage manages to quickly hop out of the pool but his female friend isn’t having the easiest time. She tries her best to swim backwards and away from the predator. Meanwhile, her male companion runs over to the other side to help her get out as fast as she can. When she gets over to the edge, the crocodile suddenly jets towards her and it look like some bad stuff is about to go down.
She puts her arms on the side of the pool and the man tries his best to help. At one point, it looks like the crocodile actually attacks the girl! Although she suffers from a few bites, she shakes him off and the animal dives back into the water. The woman uses this as an opportunity to leap out of the pool. Luckily, the two have managed to escape the pool with few injuries.
Now that they’ve reached safety, the two look at the pool and just watch the crocodile swim through the water. The girl walks away and into the home while the man continues to watch the reptile casually swim around the area.
The event was captured on October 27th and took place in Zimbabwe, Kariba. The country’s severe drought has been declared a ‘state of disaster’ by President Robert Mugabe. The UN believes that roughly five million residents may need assistance by the end of the year.
