Owning a pet is a huge responsibility. Whether it is a tiny parrot, a cuddly kitten or a gigantic dog, pet owners need to ensure that their pets are healthy and safe. Things such as NOT leaving them locked in hot cars, or feeding them organic, whole foods can go a long way in their health, safety, and longevity.
But unfortunately, we still see cases of animal cruelty and pets are still being mistreated and abused.
This is the case of Roxanne the pit bull.
Roxanne was found walking along the streets of Columbia in South Carolina when a passerby noticed something strange going on with Roxanne’s face.
Roxanne’s face was so bloated and swollen that she barely even resembled a pit bull. The chain around her neck was tied so tight that it caused enormous swelling in her face and neck.
The kind Samaritans quickly brought her to a local animal hospital in the area called Rescue Dogs Rock.
It is usually extremely dangerous to put small animals under anesthesia (overdosing can result in death and under dosing can result in them waking up during surgery). But the vets still decided to put her under anesthesia since she was clearly in so much pain and discomfort.
The chain dug so deep into her flesh that doctors had no choice but to put her under anesthesia.
The doctors were not sure how long the chain had been tied around her neck so they had to begin the process of carefully and meticulously removing the chain.
The medical personnel utilized a pair of heavy duty bolt cutters to remove the thick chain around her neck. Even then the swelling around her face didn’t immediately subside.
After removing the chain, Roxanne had to be rushed to another emergency room where she had to undergo a medical procedure to ensure that her injuries would not result in her death.
Roxanne showed her strength by making it through yet another operation. Slowly but surely, the swelling in her face began to subside.
Doctors noticed that her depression (which was evident during her time in pain) was slowly subsiding and that her energy levels were increasing.
Now that she is fully recovered, and the swelling in her face is almost completely gone, she is looking for a new and safe home to join!
