Not every love story has a happily ever after. Amanda Harris thought she had finally found hers when she married her second husband Wayne and they started a family together.
After five years of being happily married, the couple’s relationship came to a tragic end after Harris’s ex-husband decided to show up at their Texas home.
The unsolicited reunion quickly turned violent and resulted in a devastating loss for Amanda and her two children.
Amanda Harris and her ex-husband, Sayantan Ghose, had divorced nearly nine years ago, but ever since then, he’s refused to stay out of the picture. However, she never knew just how far he would go until it was too late.
After Harris was out celebrating her 11-year-old daughter’s birthday, the two returned to their League City home to find 41-year-old Ghose standing the doorstep.
Ghose proceeded to shoot both Amanda and her husband just outside their home. Amanda was shot twice, once in both her left arm and leg. Luckily, when Ghose pointed the gun at her head and pulled the trigger, it did not fire.
Wayne, however, was shot multiple times and died in the driveway. The horrific scene was witnessed by Amanda’s 11-year-old daughter and Ghose managed to flee the scene before police arrived.
“[Wayne] was my rock. He picked up the pieces where I left off and I did the same for him,” Harris told Click2Houston. “He was an incredible person. It’s just destroyed us. My girls and I are just destroyed.”
According to ABC13, detectives found 11 spent shell casings at the scene of the crime. Ghose is a registered nurse and worked at a dialysis clinic. 16 hours after the tragic incident, he was found by authorities and arrested in New Mexico.
“It breaks my heart that anybody would take somebody’s life or some actions that would lead to that,” Amanda’s neighbor, Aubrey Hartman, told ABC13.
After losing her husband, Amanda now has to find a way to provide for her 11-year-old and 3-year-old daughter, who was born without an esophagus and requires special needs. Harris currently has no source of income. Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe account to help her through this terrible loss.
