Robert Carter, the father of famous singers Nick and Aaron carter, has passed away at the age of 65.
Nick Carter released a statement the day after his father’s death, sharing that he is heartbroken: “I am heartbroken to share the news that our father, Robert, passed away last night.” Aaron Carter also wrote that he was heartbroken, writing on an Instagram post: “We are so hurt we lost you poppa way too soon. You were never human to me, you were always my real life superhero.”
Details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been released, but it is speculated that Robert Carter may have died of heart complications. Read more about it below.
The family has not revealed much about the death besides the fact that they are heartbroken and devastated.
While the cause of death is being investigated, Nick has posted the following message on his Twitter account, asking for people to respect his family’s privacy: “While we learn more about the cause of death, and begin the grieving process, we ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
Aaron Carter himself also Tweeted, posting a picture on his Twitter.
“#RIP DADDY I love You. This is the last pic I have (sic) my dad.”
Aaron also posted another tribute to his dad on his Twitter account, writing: “I’m gonna miss you forever poppa smurf you were the coolest man ever. And super good looking pops! I’m really messed up right now.”
Carter is survived by Nick, Aaron, and their two other siblings: Angela and Bobbie.
This is not the first time the Carter family has experienced tragedy. In 2012, Nick and Aaron’s sister Leslie Carter died tragically of an overdose. She was just 25 years old.
Leslie fought a long battle with mental illness and depression and left behind a 10-month-old daughter named Alyssa Jane.
After Leslie’s death, Nick dedicated his tour with the Backstreet Boys to her: “Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform.”
The family has faced scrutiny and hardship in the public eye for years now. Aaron himself has experienced his own share of drug and law enforcement problems.
Aaron was arrested in 2008 and checked into rehab in 2011, while Nick himself also had his own run-ins with the law and addiction.
Nick decided to get sober in 2008 after learning that he had cardiomyopathy, which weakens the heart muscle.
Robert Carter and ex-wife Jane Carter divorced in 2004. “We’ve had some very tough times. There’s a lot of pitfalls to growing up in the public eye,” Robert told PEOPLE in 2008.
Although not much is known about the cause of death, there is speculation that Carter may have died of heart problems.
TMZ has reported that Aaron Carter posted a Tweet that his father had been found unconscious, which he later deleted.
We send our good wishes and positive prayers to the family in their time of mourning and hope that the public and media continue to respect their privacy through this trying time.
