Floyd Mayweather Says He’s Better Than Muhammad Ali And Mike Tyson Has A Lot Of Feelings About It

Before Floyd Mayweather’s decisive win over Conor McGregor in late August, he was asked to compare himself to other boxing greats. Mayweather responded with the confidence and poise that has made him such a formidable opponent in the ring.

Undoubtably, when anyone thinks of Muhammad Ali, they think of a legend and a tireless competitor who fought harder than most boxers can ever imagine. Now it should be stated that it is very difficult to compare boxers from different eras; styles, workout routines, and the pressures that the spotlight brings have all changed dramatically since Muhammad Ali’s heyday.

When Mayweather was asked if he was a better fighter than Muhammad Ali, he responded saying he believed he was. It was this assertion that had Mike Tyson respond.

To be a great boxer, you need to be confident.  So Mayweather’s comments regarding his belief that he could take on Ali should not be surprising.

Also, we should mention that Mayweather’s comment about Muhammad Ali did occur a few years ago. So this is relatively old news.

It was during a television appearance that Mayweather’s opinion on Ali was mentioned.

Recently, a fan on Twitter dug up a video of Mike Tyson responding to Mayweather’s claim, and it’s gone viral.

The video was taken in the days leading up to the infamous Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight back in May of 2015. A reporter holds a microphone up to Tyson’s face and asks him if he heard about Mayweather’s comments about Muhammad Ali.

“Have you heard about Floyd talking about Muhammad Ali?” The reporter asks.

Mike Tyson responded to the reporter’s question by saying: “He’s very delusional.” Adding, “If he was anywhere near that realm of Muhammad Ali, he would be able to take his kids to school by himself.”

Tyson continued: “Greatness is not guarding yourself from people, greatness is being accepted by the people.”

“He can’t take his kids alone to school by himself. He’s a little scared man. He’s a very small scared man,” Tyson said.

Tyson is no stranger to voicing his opinion about Mayweather. Recently he did an interview with Sirius XM radio, where he was asked about what he thought about a fight between Mayweather and McGregor and what it would do to boxing.

“Only way it can ruin boxing is if McGregor goes and boxes Floyd because he’s going to look really ridiculous boxing him,” Tyson said.

“But if he goes in there with the UFC stuff, now this could be pretty interesting,” he finished.

While we all know the result of the epic bout between Mayweather and McGregor, it is interesting to read comments regarding peoples thoughts on the fight before it happened.

The fight between Mayweather and McGregor was a lot closer than people expected and both fighters acknowledged each other’s

With that said, the fight did seem to solidify Mayweather’s position as the most winningest boxer ever. Mayweather’s record is now 50-0.

Does Mayweather’s position as the most winningest boxer ever make you reconsider his thoughts on who would win in a fight between himself and Muhammad Ali? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
