With winter fast approaching, it’s that time of year where noses get stuffed up, and everyone starts coughing. That’s right, it’s almost flu season. Nobody has the time to deal with getting sick, but it happens to the best of us. Usually when this happens all we want to do is;
And while some of these methods are effective in quantity, why not follow this 24 hour guide to beating that flu bug? If you’re feeling sniffly today, try out these 9 steps and get back to your regular self.
Step 1: 7AM - Take a Hot Shower: It might be difficult to convince yourself to get up and out of your warm bed when you’re dealing with the flu. But a warm misty shower is just what your sinuses need and want. The steam will help clear any mucus that has collected from lying flat all night.
Step 2: 8AM - Take two teaspoons of elderberry syrup: Elderberry syrup has anti-viral properties and helps to boost the immune system. It can be taken up to three times daily to decrease the intensity and duration of the flu. It can also be a good way to protect oneself if surrounded by others who are sick.
Step 3: 9AM - Skip coffee and cereal, have eggs and tea instead: Eggs are an excellent source of protein containing all 9 amino acids. Protein helps the body to fight off infection, and paired with a hot cup of honey lemon tea will work wonders. The honey lemon combination helps to soothe and coat your throat and works better than some prescription medicines.
Step 4: 12:30PM - Add some chickpeas and pumpkin seeds to your salad: Both are rich with zinc-which helps with inflammation and helps the body to reduce infection. If taken prior to getting sick it can help with duration and intensity. Another option is to suck on zinc lozenges.
Step 5: 2:00PM - Refill your water bottle-Keeping the body hydrated is one of the most important steps in recovering from a cold. Make sure to keep a full bottle at your side and periodically take sips throughout the day. When fighting off an infection or dealing with fever, the body is more prone to dehydration.
