To prevent discrimination in the workplace from occurring, most companies have a Human Resources department. So the internet was surprised to hear about a story where an immigrant was rejected on a job application in the rudest way possible.
Minh Huynh, who is a Vietnamese immigrant, responded to a job application to which he had relevant job experience for. Not only did Huynh get rejected, but the HR manager, Bruce Peterson, sent a rude email back to Huynh.
Huynh’s daughter Emily shared the email exchange via Twitter. This email was so aggressive that it sent the Twitter community into a frenzy. It’s also a reminder of the struggles that immigrants continue to go through.
According to Emily, Huynh responded to the job application by emailing Peterson and asking “Talk about appointment available, Monday.” Peterson responded by saying “Let me tell you now, if you no speak English, I will send you home.”
It’s no secret that in North America the English language is a requirement for many jobs. But there was no need for this response. It shows a lack of professionalism and could possibly have destroyed Huynh’s confidence for finding another job.
Huynh’s daughter Emily told NextShark that her father is not hurt by the comment and most Asian immigrants brush off this stigma because they don’t fully understand the severity.
Emily also mentions that she is disgusted by the comment because companies constantly use micro-aggressions, which a big concern for how future citizens will be treated.
