A massive tornado tore through Wray, Colorado on Saturday reportedly leaving several buildings and homes severely damaged or completely destroyed. However, the tornado’s destruction provided this absolutely breathtaking yet daunting extreme close-up footage.

Famed meteorologist and storm chaser, Reed Timmer, got dangerously close to the vortex of the tornado, capturing some astonishing footage. Timmer’s video lets you feel the sheer power of the storm, getting nerve-wrackingly intimate with the swirling cloud of dust and debris.

Another chaser who was following the tornado, Gabe Cox, told ABC News, ‘When we came out on that road and it was sitting in front of us, it was probably the most amazing tornado we have seen at least in a while.’

U.S. Tornados notes on their website that eastern Colorado is subject to such violent storms due to its geography, saying, ‘Thanks to the elevation of the High Plains, plus the natural rising air which aids convection due to upslope flow as that elevation is gained, eastern Colorado is prime grounds for big stuff from little ingredients.
