We all aspire to be superheroes. They are these mythological, ‘perfect’ beings that have harnessed their powers for good rather than evil. Superman, Batman, and Iron Man—they fight the ‘bad guys’ and defend innocent civilians. But you don’t have to look too hard to find people who are technically superheroes in real life (albeit without the powers that defy nature.)
This is where Jason Momoa and Mark Hunt come together. Jason Momoa is an American actor, model, and director. He is most famous for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. He has also appeared in Conan the Barbarian, Batman vs. Superman and the soon-to-be-released Aquaman.
Mark Hunt (also known as ‘The Super Samoan’) is a professional MMA fighter who is notorious for his one-punch knockout power. As a heavyweight in the UFC and a super heavyweight in kickboxing, he has amassed accolades in both sports. He is the winner of the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix.
The two recently met up (at the gym, of course) and a video surfaced of Jason and a group of MMA fighters chanting an intense Maori haka in preparation for Mark’s next fight.
A haka is a form of Maori war dance that was historically used on the battlefield. It is also used when opposing tribes come together in peace. The haka is also a representation of the tribe’s pride, strength, and unity.
Some of the moves in a haka include rhythmic body slapping, hard foot stomps, and tongue protrusions. It has been reported that Jason did a form of the haka for his audition for the role of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.
The loud, intimidating and inspiring war chant performed by a group of topless, jacked, MMA fighters inside of a UFC octagon is awe-inspiring, to say the least. Watch the video yourself to get amped up for the rest of your day!
