A 31-year-old woman from Jackson, Michigan who was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the murder of her boyfriend received some harsh words from a judge during her sentencing, and some people are questioning his extreme reaction.
Camia Gamet was found guilty of first degree murder by a Michigan jury for stabbing her boyfriend to death in 2013. Gamet claims that she killed her boyfriend in self defense, saying that she was “convicted on lies.” During the sentencing, Gamet laughed and rolled her eyes at the family as they gave their testimony, spurring a strong emotional response from Judge John McBain. “You gutted him like a fish in that apartment. You were relentless,” he said, and upon seeing her continued disrespect he unleashed more fury on the murderer.
“You’re gonna shut your mouth or I’m going to have some duct tape put on it,” he yelled. Some people are questioning his comments while others fully support the emotional reaction.
“Sometimes judges are required to take firm and definite steps to get control of the proceedings and to ultimately make the person standing in front of them understand the full accountability of their actions,” Judge McBain told ABC news.
Judge McBain sentenced Camia Gamet to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“I agree with the family, I hope you die in prison as well. If this was a death penalty state, you’d be getting the chair,” Judge McBain told Gamet when he was sentencing her. Upon hearing this sentence, the crowd in the courtroom began applauding, happy with the verdict and the outcome of the case.
Judge McBain says that this is the most heinous and cold-blooded crime he has ever dealt with, and feels justified in what he said as well as the sentence he gave her.
