It was earlier this week when Kim Jong-hyun took his own life. Kim Jong-hyun was the lead singer of the K-Pop group, SHINee, which received the moniker ‘princes ok K-Pop’ from all their fans around the world. He was just 27 years old when he killed himself. Now, a close friend of his has decided to reveal his last note to the world if he were to ever ‘disappear.’
It was on December 18 when police received a call from Kim’s older sister saying that she thought her brother was going to commit suicide.
She told officials that she received several messages from Kim that resembled a final goodbye.
When police and first responders reached the scene, Kim had already tried to end his own life. The Gangnam Police released a statement that day.
‘On December 18, 2017, at 4:42 PM Jonghyun’s older sister reported to Police that her brother was about to commit suicide. We went to his residence in Chungdam and discovered that he had attempted to commit suicide.’
‘Emergency responders were with us at the time so we rushed him to the Konkuk University Hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.’ While fans mourned his death around the world, others attributed his death to his depression and insomnia which he recently admitted to suffering from.
But in reality, his close friend and singer, Nine9, (who is a part of the group Dear Cloud) said she was given specific instructions to make this note public if he were to ever ‘disappear from this world.’
Nine9 said that she was well aware of his struggles and even notified Kim’s parents and family for his own well being but she ‘only ended up postponing time and could not block his last action.’ Although the final note was written in Korean, some dedicated fans have translated the entire note into English.
In the note, it was revealed that he struggled to live his life as a celebrity and ‘was broken from the inside.’ He also said that the ‘life of fame was never meant for [him]’ and that the ‘depression slowly ate away at [him] [and] ended up swallowing [him.]’
The final excerpt of his note read: ‘It’s commendable that I was able to withstand up to this point. What more can I say? Just tell me I worked hard. That I did a good job. That I went through a lot. Even if you can’t smile, please don’t send me off in blame. You worked hard. You really went through a lot. Goodbye.’
Kim was performing as recently as two weeks ago where his band has been going on tour the past several months after rising to fame in 2008. He last performed at SK Olympic Handball Stadium and also at Seoul Olympic Park.
