A benign tumor is an abnormal growth that doesn’t invade nearby tissue or spread to other parts of the body. While the cause of benign tumors is often unknown, they can sometimes be linked to:

While not malignant, benign tumors can require treatment if they start to affect vital structures, but most of the time they don’t cause any problems. However, when a tumor grows to noticeable sizes, it can undeniably affect someone’s self-esteem.
One woman’s benign tumor on her face grew to the size of a grapefruit and she turned to the talk show The Doctors in hopes to get it removed.
Georgia mother of seven, Angie Twiggs, was combing her hair when she noticed a small peculiar lump behind her right ear. While the lump caused her no pain, it still raised concern.
Twiggs was consulted by a local doctor who told her that the lump was nothing more than a lymph node. Twiggs wasn’t convinced and sought out multiple doctoral opinions.
However, seven years later, the tumor never stopped growing and got to the point where it was unable to be concealed. It caused Twiggs serious anxiety and self-consciousness.
Eventually, Twiggs discovered she had a salivary gland tumor, but finding an expert to help her seemed next to impossible.
