In 2016, Andrew Taylor uploaded a video to YouTube explaining his plan to go on a new diet that consisted of only eating potatoes. One year later, Taylor stuck with his diet and lost over 100 pounds. Though the diet is effective, it comes with health risks worth knowing about.
When Taylor first began his journey, he was over 300 pounds. His video on January 2, 2016, told of his trip to pick up six kilos worth of potatoes from a store. He went on to talk about the nutrients in potatoes and why he was going on his diet.
He recorded his progress as the year went by.
By the end of the year, Taylor had lost a significant amount of weight and wanted to share tips with others who may be interested in partaking on the same journey. On his new website, spudfit.com, Taylor shared in his About page why he went on the diet.
“From his black hole of clinical anxiety and depression, desperate to be the man he hoped his young son could look up to, he had an epiphany: he was a food addict,” the page reads.
Food addiction is seen as a condition that is just as serious as drug addiction.
According to healthline.com, food addiction is “a relatively new (and controversial) term and there are no good statistics available on how common it is. This is very similar to several other eating disorders, including binge eating disorder, bulimia, compulsive overeating and having an “unhealthy” relationship with food,” the site wrote.
In 2016, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse published a report detailing the specifics of food addiction and explained the legitimacy of it. The key points to the research outlined evidence of food addiction, risk factors, and policy and health care practices that should be available for information.
