Meghan Markle. Prince Harry. Wedding. It seems like this is all we’ve been hearing about lately. But admit it, you can’t seem to get enough of every single detail about them. I can’t blame you, I feel the exact same way.
In terms of the actual wedding, there’s not a lot of information released, at least for now. All we know is that there is already a date in place (May 2018) and the location has been sorted out. They will be getting married at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Chapel. That’s pretty much it.
But the date has people wondering as to why everything is happening fairly quickly. Even though Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement was more or less the same amount of time. If you remember, their wedding was announced in November 2010 and they got married the following April.
So because the timelines are more or less the same, you’d think it’s probably the standard royal wedding timeline. But actually, there is a bit of urgency this time around.
It all has to do with Prince Harry’s 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh. Royal expert, Kate Nicholl, tells Entertainment Tonight that Prince Harry is feeling a bit of pressure.
He wants to have this wedding sooner rather than later so that his grandfather can be there for it. It means the world to him that he sees him and Markle tie the knot.
Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, “one of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted his wedding to happen quite quickly…is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now…”
She continued, “…He’s incredibly close to his grandfather and being 96, Harry thought it was a great thing to have the wedding sooner rather than later so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy.”
She finished off by saying, “it’s for this reason that Prince Harry wanted to have his wedding at St. George’s Chapel too: He wanted something close to home for the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen.”
That’s pretty sweet of Harry to do. Everyone is getting so emotional over this…who knew that we’d all be tearing up for this wedding six months before it actually happens? But c’mon…for some of us it’s pretty hard not to!
Nicholl added that she believes that both Harry and Meghan are keen on the idea of having a small, family, intimate wedding. She also noted, “Windsor is also a really special place to Prince Harry. He spent a lot of his childhood there, went to school there.”
