We know that actors and actresses go to extensive lengths to take on different roles. Heath Ledger gave it his all to put in a tremendous performance as the Joker in the ‘Dark Knight.’ Now we are seeing Melissa McCarthy, who lost 75 pounds to star in her new film ‘Life of the Party.’ McCarthy has been well known for her humorous and spontaneous personality which brings laughter and joy in almost all her films. But now her transformation for this role has gone viral, and it’s one of the main topics flowing through Hollywood.
According to the Daily Mail, McCarthy went on a ketogenic diet before the movie started filming to help her get rid of some weight. The ketogenic diet is defined as a low-carb, high-fat diet.
The diet involves reducing the carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. The reduction in carbs will put your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. Ketosis is when the body produces ketone bodies out of fat instead and using them for energy instead of carbs.
The one thing that almost every person loves about McCarthy is that she has always stayed true to herself. With a lot of scrutiny about how women should look weight-wise, it’s a breath of fresh air when someone like McCarthy embraces her size and never lets anyone change the way she felt about her body.
The synopsis of the film is that her husband leaves Deanna (Melissa McCarthy) who was a long time dedicated housewife and she is now stuck at a crossroads. All she’s ever known is taking care of the house and her husband. So instead of playing the regret card, Deanna decides to go back to college.
Deanna plunges headfirst into the college experience where she embraces the freedom and fun on her own terms. The experience hopefully will help Deanna find her true self. In my opinion, this movie is a great motivation for women. It teaches women that whether you are married or not, finding out who you really are is one of the most important aspects of living. You can have the perfect husband and all the money in the world, but if you sacrifice who you are in order to get it, you’re basically sacrificing your own life and happiness.
McCarthy told reporters: “I think I’m more confident than I’ve ever felt in my life. I always thought it was worth the fight. Now I know it is.” I completely agree with McCarthy; the hardest thing to do when it comes to weight loss is keeping that motivation to keep going. It’s a long and grueling process at times, but most people who do it agree that the results at the end are completely worth it. You cannot put a price on your health and happiness, and we all should remember that we only have one life, so we should do whatever we can to make it count. I think that is something McCarthy would agree with.
