There’s a new tradition a lot of new parents are making lately, and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are decided to take on that tradition as well. This Christmas, the couple has decided not to give their children presents.
The couple who met on That 70s Show, recently spoke about their decision with Entertainment Tonight. Kunis spoke about how the holiday had become a large event with her family. The couple decided that they would be more mindful of the holiday this time of year, and what it means to both of their children, Wyatt who is 3, and Dimitri who is 10 months old.
Kunis went on, saying “Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was 2 and it was too much. We didn’t give her anything ― it was the grandparents. The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; They’re just expecting stuff.”
This movement isn’t entirely new. A lot of new parents, especially millennials, have opted out of the “Christmas” traditions, especially when it comes to showering your children with endless gifts. Perhaps this movement is sparked by a lack of childhood appreciation. Not getting spoiled with gifts every year helps us appreciate the season all the more, when we do get something.
This year, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have decided they’d like to make a charitable donation to a local children’s hospital, but will put the decision in their children’s hands.
Mila Kunis also went on to describe how they keep their children busy whenever they go around to travel. “We have a public library card everywhere we go,” she said. “When it is really hot outside, we go to the library and read books.”
The couple’s lives have drastically changed since having children. Kunis told ET that, “We used to be like, ‘What’s the coolest club?’ And [now] I’m like, ‘Let me tell you about the zoo in Atlanta and the bouncy house! There’s not one kid activity that I haven’t done yet with my child!”
