Mariah Carey was a guest on Good Morning Britain, when news of the Las Vegas shooting reached the network. Carey was on live TV promoting her Christmas Tour when Good Morning Britain hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid began instead to cover the latest reports from the scene.
Mariah Carey’s reaction to the tragedy was also caught on camera as she was informed of the Las Vegas events live. During the program, she commented, “It’s just awful. Again, I pray for the victims and hope that all of this can stop as soon as possible.”
She also added, “I’ve spent a lot of time in Vegas. This type of thing happening anywhere is a huge tragedy. So I continue to pray for the victims and hope we have an end to this as soon as possible.” Speaking of the victims she said, “It’s terrible because people are just going out to listen to music.”
“They’re out for the night and something like this happens, it’s shocking,” she adds. After the program, Carey took to social media to express her love and support to the victims of the shooting. “Horrified to hear about the shooting in #LasVegas,” she wrote in a tweet, “My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Praying for everyone’s safety.”
Some viewers are unhappy with the way Good Morning Britain handled the coverage of the tragedy, slamming the show for “inappropriately” taking advantage of having Mariah Carey on the show while the tragedy was unfolding.
One Twitter user wrote, “We now go to Mariah Carey for some unknown reason for the latest updates #GMB.” Another Twitter user felt that it was a tactless move on the show’s part, to inform Carey of the mass shooting on live TV, writing, “So tasteless breaking the Vegas news to Mariah Carey live on TV, shame on you @gmb.”
A third Twitter user wrote, “@GMB Terrible event in Las Vegas. Let’s get the views of Mariah Carey in front of a Christmas tree! Irrelevant and inappropriate. #getagrip.”
