25 Celebrities Who Shut Down Their Haters

Celebrities may have managed to amass adoring fans across the globe, but living under the public microscope also makes them subject to unsolicited hatred. It’s almost impossible to come across a comment section associated with a celebrity that isn’t littered with cruelty. Despite how popular a celebrity may be, there will always be haters who try endlessly to bring them down.

While criticism comes with the territory of stardom, not every celebrity lets these snide comments slide. Many stars have confronted their haters and used it as an opportunity to denounce cyberbullying. Here are 25 celebrities who shut down their haters in the best possible ways.

1. Disney star Zendaya graced the Oscars red carpet in 2015 wearing a slinky white gown and wore her hair in dreadlocks. The look received a racially insensitive comment from Fashion Police’s Giuliana Rancic who stated that her hair looked like it smelt “like patchouli oil… or weed.” The then 18-year-old starlet took to Instagram to respond to the offensive remark, writing, “I don’t usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked … There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.” Her statement was heard loud and clear and Rancic issued a public apology following the post.

2. In July 2014, Selena Gomez received a hateful comment on one of her Instagram pictures that said, “Burn in hell with cancer.” The pop star responded to the bully with class and challenged her to be a better person, writing, “The comment you left about cancer was absurd. How distasteful of a young woman. I have gone through that battle with fans and family members. You can dislike someone, but to wish something that could happen to you or your family is uncalled for sweetheart. You won’t be winning ‘anyone’s’ heart that way. Trust me. Educate yourself a tad more. God bless love. Be an amazing woman. You’re beautiful.”
