Unless it comes naturally to you, math can be a huge pain throughout school. I struggled with almost every concept. Also if you’re like me, you probably wondered why they wouldn’t teach something more entertaining or useful! Like these 11 handy tricks they didn’t teach in school.
1. I didn’t want to learn about fractions and algebra, I wanted to learn something useful that I knew I would actually use in the real world! Like how to convert from celsius to Fahrenheit. This may seem like a daunting task but it actually isn’t that difficult! All you have to do is take the temperature in celsius, multiple it by 2 and then add 30. The result will then be the temperature converted into Fahrenheit. For example, if the temperature is 22 degrees celsius, the equation would be F=(Cx2)+30. Remember those scary brackets from high school or college math? They aren’t so confusing when you break it down like this. Just remember to solve whatever is in the brackets first, before applying the rest of the equation. To figure it out in reverse, just flip the equation to C=(F-30)/ 2. Are you feeling like a mathematician yet?
2. Multiply large numbers mentally with this trick. If the sum is 97×96, start by subtracting both from 100. Left with 3 and 4 add them together. Take 7 and subtract it from 100 to get the first half of the equation, then multiply 3 and 4 to get the second half. You should be left with the answer 9312.
