There are some places in the world that were once filled with life, but then because of a disaster or a natural accident, they have become uninhabitable. Fukushima in Japan is one such place, devastated by a nuclear disaster. Another equally haunting place is Chernobyl. Few people have been able to walk these grounds in order to capture some eerie photographs.
1. The Chernobyl disaster, also known as the Chernobyl accident occurred 30 years ago on April 26, 1986. It was the result of a flawed design that had been operated by insufficiently trained personnel. Although some photos have been taken of the abandoned city, it’s likely that no one will be able to live on these lands again. And from these 25 photos you’re going to see why. It’s definitely pretty creepy seeing the abandoned run-down town. Although this sign still stands with the name welcoming in visitors, it’s definitely not the most inviting sight. The population is zero at this point, but due to high radioactive levels, some people suggest that there could be mutated animals who have adapted to the environment. That, combined with the toxicity of the air is enough to make anyone want to steer clear of Chernobyl, but it definitely is quite interesting to have a peek into its past, and see what once was.
2. In this picture you can actually see the devastating explosion that happened at the Chernobyl power plant. This is definitely one of the worst nuclear disasters of all time and this explosion is an event that would alter history forever. The soviet town of Pripyat was hit the hardest as well as the surrounding areas in Belarus.
