Fashion is fake. Oh, sure, there are some “rules” – don’t wear white after labor day, don’t mix prints, don’t wear sequins during the day – but they’re more like guidelines. Like the law if you’re a rich politician, these rules are meant to be broken.
We’ve had some wild trends in the past year, from mythologically-themed hair to space-age boots. Now that 2017’s starting to wind down, we thought it would be an appropriate time to start talking about the weirdest stuff we saw. I mean, there’s still two months left, but it’s hard to see how we’re going to top trends like see-through jeans or deliberately-mismatched shoes.
If you’re looking to compile a subtle, tasteful outfit, you should probably look somewhere else. This list is all about reveling in the weirdest things that 2017’s trendsetters had to offer, both the good and the bad. And if you see a favorite trend on the no-go list? Don’t sweat it! Again, fashion is fake, and one person’s trash is another person’s sartorial treasure!
1. Platform Crocs: I’ll admit, I don’t like these, and I wouldn’t wear them personally. But I have nothing but respect for people who would wear these. They are the footwear of someone who doesn’t care about the disapproval of God or man, and I’d honestly be a little afraid to insult them. 5/10.
2. Boyfriend Fashion: I already hate the boyfriend trend in general; can’t women just wear oversized, ugly clothing in peace without having to assure the world that we’re heterosexual? And this one, with its tearaway sleeves, is even worse. Who’s your boyfriend, Edward Scissorhands? 1/10.
