Natalie Suleman garnered international attention when she gave birth to octuplets back in 2009. The eight children were only the second full set to be born alive in the United States.
Over the next couple of years, Suleman was deemed “Octomom” by the media. The headlines she was making did not put her in a positive light. Suleman underwent some rocky times raising her 14 children and made sacrifices along the way to do so.
However, eight years later, Suleman has now celebrated her kids’ eighth birthday and hopes to leave her famed moniker behind.
Suleman is the mother of 14 children. It was her 8 children: Makai, Josiah, Isaiah, Jonah, Maliyah, Jeremiah, Nariyah, and Noha, which catapulted the 41-year-old into the spotlight.
It’s been a rocky road for the mother trying to financially provide for all of her kids in her three-bedroom town home outside of Los Angeles, one that has resulted in decisions she’s not proud of.
“Octomom was created by the media,” Suleman confessed to Inside Edition. “They made it up without my permission, but I took accountability out of desperation to provide for my family. Shamefully…I abandoned my own identity.”
However, Suleman is hoping to move past her stint in the media and has a positive outlook on the future. “I have embraced every day with gratitude,” the mother of 14 said.
While the world has judged Natalie Suleman for her parenting over the past eight years, she claims that she’s always done what’s best for them.
Now, Suleman has her kids on a vegan diet and they celebrated their eighth birthday with a vegan cheese-less pizza, veggies galore, and a chocolate cake.
Suleman and the eight-year-olds enjoyed a VIP experience at a kids’ gym where they played around in a glow-in-the-dark playground equipped with glow sticks and necklaces.
“I devote my whole life to my family and that’s the least I could do because there’s only one me and 14 of them,” Suleman told People. “I have to give all my energy and all of me to my kids.”
