Rebel Wilson Won Her Defamation Lawsuit

First impressions count and so do our reputations. We care about our image and how others think of us (whether that’s healthy or not is another topic.) And that is exactly what Rebel Wilson did recently.

The actress filed a defamation lawsuit against a large media corporation. She says they damaged her reputation and cost her several acting and voicing jobs. Rebel has said that ‘it was really disgraceful’ what the magazines did to her name. Since her victory, she is expected to receive financial compensation for the damages.

A positive reputation is even more important for a celebrity. When their public image is seen as honest and genuine, they will receive a larger and more loyal following. The media corporation that defamed Rebel has announced that it will ‘consider its options.’

Here are the details.

The star of Pitch Perfect filed a defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media after alleging that eight articles published in 2015 damaged her reputation.

After just two days of deliberation, the jury announced that Rebel was indeed tarnished and that she won the lawsuit.

She said that in 2015 Bauer magazines, such as Australian Women’s Weekly and Woman’s Day, portrayed her as a liar which not only damaged her reputation but cost her jobs.

Out of the courtroom, she could be seen pumping her fists in victory. In an interview, she said that she was ‘extremely happy’ with the verdict.

She also said: ‘This has definitely been a long and very hard fight but I felt that I had to take a stand. I had to stand up to a bully, a huge media organization — Bauer Media Group — who maliciously took me down in May 2015 with a series of grubby and completely false articles.’

The articles alleged that Rebel had lied about her age, her birth name and also her family background. Rebel claims these false allegations were due to an old classmate who was out to get her.

Rebel said that as a result of these unjust accusations she lost out on roles in Kung Fu Panda 3 and Trolls.

She said: ‘I’m a successful Australian, I was in a number-one movie all around the world, and the response from this organization was just to maliciously bring me down.’
