For a lot of parents-to-be, picking the name of their unborn child can be an entire process…maybe even a stressful one. Some parents aren’t settled on a name until the baby is actually born. Once you have the name, it’s the best feeling.
But for one anonymous mother, how her baby daughter’s name sounded in her head was very different from how it sounded when everyone started saying it repeatedly out loud. User AutumnName wrote on Mumsnet her story.
The mother wrote, “My daughter was born on Halloween (2016) and I named her Autumn. I really like the look of it and the sound of it in my head. Since using it as a name, it doesn’t seem to work as well.”
She continued on Mumsnet, “Whenever I say her name, I normally get a look and an ‘Autumn? Like the season?’ And it’s embarrassing.”
The mother also noted that her friends and family also weren’t the biggest fans of the name and had difficulty embracing it.
If it was up to the woman’s mother, she would name the baby Matilda. The constant jabs from everyone are seriously getting to this woman.
Because everyone is getting to this mom and no one seems to get her name, she’s considering changing the baby’s name before her first birthday.
But other online users are pretty divided on what this mom should do. Some people didn’t have any problem with the name but more of a problem with this woman’s mother.
People wrote things like, “I like it. Your mom should be happy you didn’t call her Hally, short for Halloween.” Another wrote, “Autumn is a beautiful name. Don’t change her name, change your mum instead!”
Others seemed to be on board with changing her name, noting that the baby is still pretty young to be affected by a name change.
The majority, however, thought that the name Autumn is a gorgeous name and that this mom should embrace it and not let the people around her affect her decision on naming her daughter Autumn.
