Being in the public spotlight is not always an easy task. Celebrities are frequently criticized on social media and are forced to deal with constant judgment and scrutiny. Too often, people forget that they are also humans.
Selena Gomez made headlines following her Sunday night performance at the American Music Awards. The 25-year-old singer performed her new single “Wolves.” This was the first time Selena took the stage in over a year and the initial reaction on Twitter was overwhelmingly negative. Many people criticized her performance and accused her of lip syncing. One Twitter user, @moaningwithari, wrote:
“So Selena Gomez’s big comeback they’ve been shoving down our throats for a month was her lip syncing and rolling around on the floor? #AMAs.”
Another user, @hymnic tweeted out: “If only she didn’t lip sync it, would’ve been a great performance.”
Her fans noticed that she seemed down during her performance. At the end of the song, Selena shrugged her shoulders and mouthed “Thank you” to the audience.
It was later rumored that she was subdued because she suffered a panic attack before she went on stage. In response to this rumor, Selena Gomez received much support from the Twitter community.
