1. After the film was released, actress Heather Donahue’s mother received sympathy cards from people who actually believed that her daughter was either dead or missing.
2. The actors were only given a mere 35-page outline of the mythology behind the film before shooting. All of the dialogue was improvised and almost all of the events in the film were kept from the actors until during filming.
3. The leading trio of actors in the film were actually set up to believe that the Blair Witch legend was real. While they knew the film was going to be fake, it wasn’t until after production that they realized the mythology was completely fictional.
4. In the beginning of the film, the lead actors interview townspeople about the legend. Little did the actors know, the directors planted the townspeople so that their expressions would be genuine.
