One great way to keep the mind sharp and exercised is to do a couple of brain teasers or riddles. The brain is the most important muscle in the body. Therefore it needs to be given as much attention as the rest of the body. Other ways you can stretch your brain muscles can be to

  • Do puzzles,
  • Play an educational game,
  • Read.

But one of the fastest ways to get the juices flowing is to take 30 seconds to try and solve a riddle. Riddles and IQ questions can vary in difficulty, but they’ll do the same job.

Here are ten awesome riddles that will really get you thinking. How many did you answer correctly? The first image will be the question, and the post following will be the answer. Make sure to read carefully!

1. The amount of details in this one might throw you off a bit. But the answer is actually quite simple. This man is trapped in a room with a small hole in the ceiling and two doors. Behind one door is a hungry lion, and behind the other is a tunnel which magnifies the sun to deathly degrees. How does he escape?

No trickery here, it doesn’t involve opening one door and trapping the lion in the hot room, all he would have to do to escape would be to wait until night time and sneak out when the sun’s rays can’t hurt him!

3. Does this remind you of some of the problems you might have seen on your elementary math test? Try not to think too hard about that!

This question actually has nothing to do with math, the only similarity between the three numbers is that all three of them read the same when looked at upside down!

3. The more you take from this, the bigger it becomes. Have any idea what that could be?

Do you have the answer? Think about it. No the answer isn’t bank loans, though that would be true as well. The answer is a pit! The more dirt and rubble you remove from a pit or hole the bigger it becomes.

4. This is something that is hard to give up. If you remove part of it, you’ll still have a bit. Remove another part, but a bit is still there. Remove another and it remains. What is it?

This one is more of a play on words. The answer is a habit! If you remove part of it you’ll be left with ‘a bit’ and if you remove a bit more you’ll be left with ‘bit’. And then remove another part but ‘it’ will remain. Get it?

5. What can be dropped from the tallest building but wouldn’t survive getting dropped off the smallest ship?

This one is actually pretty simple, most people might get distracted by the height but what you really need to pay attention to is the water. The answer is a piece of paper! If dropped from the top of a building the paper would fall until it hit the ground unharmed, but once paper hits water it gets destroyed.

6. Do you have any idea what this could be? It has eyes but cannot see, and it gives us commands. Think about it really hard.

Do you think you have an idea what it could be? If you paid attention to the ‘gives us commands’ part, you may have already figured out that the answer is a traffic light! It’s got three ‘eyes’ that wink and blink to tell us what to do.

7. Does this remind you of some of the problems you might have seen on your elementary math test? Try not to think too hard about that!

This question actually has nothing to do with math, the only similarity between the three numbers is that all three of them read the same when looked at upside down!

8. I bet you’re trying to think of all the things in the world that have ‘fingers’. Do you think you know what the answer is?

It’s a glove! Although they might not be occupied all the time, a glove has five fingers. See how easy that was?

9. This one might throw you off because of the way it’s worded, but if Mr. Roberts has 4 daughters and each of them has a brother, how many children in total does he have?

While you might be inclined to say eight at first, the answer is actually five. Had I said ‘each’ of the girls has ‘brothers’ then it would mean there was more than one boy, but Mr. Roberts has one son, and his daughters each have one brother.

10. What is dead but can still move, leave and come back? This is starting to sound like some kind of weird zombie creature isn’t it? Think about it…The final clue is that it is clear and then red.

Give up? The answer is fingernails! They aren’t alive but they can certainly grow! Once you cut or file your nails they always come back, and they can be changed and colored with nail polish!
