A South-American couple from Ecuador has made history together. Diane Rodriguez, a transgender woman, and Fernando Machado, a transgender man, have achieved something that no other couple has before them. Fernando fell pregnant by Diane, becoming not only the first pregnant transgender couple in South America but the first male to be pregnant, too.
The couple told the BBC that neither of them has undergone Gender Confirmation Surgery yet, meaning they were able to conceive their baby without any medical aid. The couple kept fans informed of the entire process until the big day, even sharing photos of the cesarean scar to dispel any misconceptions.
Diane spoke out to Mexican media, stating: “This was the wish of both of us and there was nothing biological or legal to stop us, so we decided to do it.”
Giving birth to a healthy baby boy in June of 2016, the couple never dreamed of the happiness this would bring them. Although their fame has skyrocketed in Ecuador and online, they have remained as private as possible when it comes to their child. Choosing to share images and the process was a choice they made to influence others and allow them to understand and accept their lifestyle, and ultimately proving that they too deserve the same happiness as everyone else.
